So you want to spice up your posts with Flickr, Picasa, or iPhoto, images from your computer? You can just insert one or two using the Upload/Insert button on the post editor. But what if you want to have a dozen photos, or have your readers see them as a slide show?

Here are several ways to do it:

Embedly

[box size=small color=green align=left type=tick]Embedly is a single plugin that lets you show images by simply including the URL in your post[/box]The Embedly wordpress plugin is the simplest solution to show images from the cloud in your posts or pages. It extends WordPress’s built-in oEmbed functionality to display images from 73 (as of Nov 2010) sources by just pasting the URL as a single line into your post. It does not require Lightbox or other plugins to display slide shows.

(note: I’ve noticed that Embedly doesn’t like the source URLs being enclosed in html tags, even “p” tags, so just paste those URLs in HTML view when editing your WordPress post, and don’t try to format the URL. If you see the URL and not the image, check your HTML-view.)

[box size=small color=yellow align=left type=tick]UPDATE (12/9/2010): If you are having trouble wrestling with WordPress’s editor inserting <p> tags around your URL that you can’t remove, try this plugin PS Disable Auto Formatting, it disables auto formatting (wpautop) and saves <p> and <br /> formatted content. But beware, if you switch from HTML editing your post to Visual, the damn’d p-tags are reinserted and you have to go back to HTML mode to manually remove them![/box]

PicasaExpress 2

Adding photos to your WordPress blog 3

The Picasa Express2 plugin let’s you add a photo or gallery/album from the Upload/Insert buttons in WordPress edit view. The slideshow function is currently being supplied by another plugnin, Lighbox Plus. PicasaExpress2 also works with the JQurey Lightbox plugin for slideshows as well. I used Lightbox Plus because it was easier to configure and offered more configuration options. [box size=small color=green align=left type=tick]PicasaExpress is a good choice if you want to display the “thumbnails” gallery of your Picasa album in your post.[/box]

There are several reasons why you might want to copy your website,

you want to make a “sandbox” copy to experiment on, without affecting the public-facing production site
you want to change hosting companies to get a better deal, faster performance or more functionality
having a complete copy of your website is a great insurance policy should something happen to your host and your site is lost.

BackWPup plugin developer, Daniel Huesken has decided to begin offering a “Pro” version beginning with version 3.0 of the plugin. I don’t have a problem with this and in some cases might recommend the Pro version to some of my clients. All the issues I had with the switch to version 3.0 […]
