It's OK to go ahead now… WARNING! Don't update BackWPup plugin to version 3.x yet It's OK to go ahead now…

Go Ahead SignBackWPup plugin developer, Daniel Huesken has decided to begin offering a “Pro” version beginning with version 3.0 of the plugin. I don’t have a problem with this and in some cases might recommend the Pro version to some of my clients.

All the issues I had with the switch to version 3.0 have been fixed. The current version in June 2012 is 3.0.12 <http://wordpress.org/plugins/backwpup/>. The only remaining “problem” is that it is necessary to re-authenticate to your Dropbox account. It’s worth doing that to stay current with this great backup solution.

Unfortunately in the process he has made radical changes to the plugin resulting in blowing away all the previous user job configurations and settings requiring users to recreate all the previous work of setting up backup jobs, re-entering passwords, re-authorizing connections to Dropbox and other cloud storage services. In addition the new version is very buggy and is many cases is not working at all (see the plugin support page for current details and status of the multitude of problems).

Essentially the current version (3.0.3) is broken and should not be used.

I noticed on a business-client’s site they were getting referral traffic from porn sites and other unlikely sites. Looking into why this was […]
